What is Leukorrhea

Leukorrhea is a discharge that presents itself in the vagina usually accompanying symptoms of inflammation, foul odor, redness, itching and off-white, yellowish, thick brown or thick white discharge. Leukorrhea often occurs during puberty, under times of high-stress, during early pregnancy, PreMenopause and can even occur due to poor diet.

Frequent causes of Leukorrhea are Trichomoniasis, Candida, Bacterial Vaginosis, and STD’s. Leukorrhea is very common and can occur during puberty, after childbirth, during PreMenopause, under times of stress, from a poor diet or even from an imbalance in estrogen.

Thick White Discharge is a very common symptom of Leukorrhea or Candia, it is important not to confuse normal white discharge that accompanies ovulation. Abnormal discharge is associated with other symptoms such as pain, itching, foul smell or rash depending on the specific cause. It can also be a sign of an STD.

Leukorrhea is also a sign of vaginitis or the inflammation of the vagina, which is often caused by Candida albicans with the protozoan parasite “Trichomonas vaginalis.”  The term “physiologic leukorrhea” is used to refer to leukorrhea due to estrogen stimulation.

Parasitic Leukorrhea can be caused by groups of parasitic protozoan known as “Trichomonads”.  Leukorrhea is also caused by trichomonads, a group of parasitic protozoan. Common symptoms of this disease are burning sensation, itching and discharge of frothy substance, thick, white or yellow mucous.

Candida is the most common cause of fungal infection in the world today; while many species are not harmful Candida albicans can be dangerous if not treated.   Antibiotics, STD’s and diabetes can cause yeast infections due to an impaired immune system, in fact nearly 100,000 people in the US alone.

Inflammation of the genital area occurs that may accompany yellowish or discolored discharge often giving off a foul or fishy odor.  Inflammatory Leukorrhea can lead to Pelvic Inflammatory Disease, or P.I.D where the infection spreads from the cervix to the uterus, Fallopian tubes or ovaries.  The dangers of this can include infertility or chronic pain.

Leukorrhea can be caused by a fluctuation in estrogen levels, which explains why girls when first born, first enter puberty, become pregnant and near menopause all experience it.  An imbalance of synthetic Oestrogen from our environment, chemicals, plastics and poor diet can also cause the estrogen imbalance that brings about yeast infections.

Treating Leukorrhea with Herbs is the most effective way as antibiotics will cause yeast infections and other potent drugs kill the good bacteria’s along with bad bacteria causing Candida Overgrowth.   A detox of certain herbs including black walnut and Pumpkin seed, followed by maintenance herbs including fenugreek, Parameriae Cortex, Java tea and others have proven to be the most effective method.

Physiologic Leukorrhea is a condition many women and girls experience. Typically presenting within several months to even a year before the onset of menstruation, and sometimes presenting in newborn girls, the condition lasts for up to two months. Conversely, in some cases Leukorrhea is a sign of infection—particularly when the discharge is either yellow or green and comes with an offensive odor.
Other symptoms of the condition include inflammatory Leukorrhea, irritation, itching, pain, and even a white solid discharge coming from the vagina.

Leukorrhea can be a sign of infection. Most cases are not cause for concern, but if you are experiencing itching, discomfort, irritation and odor, then you may have a vaginal infection causing the Leukorrhea. Physiologic Leukorrhea on the other hand, is caused by an estrogen imbalance.
Women who are pregnant, going through menopause, or adolescents approaching their first period, are at most risk for the condition. An increase in estrogen levels can cause the rapid likelihood of developing Leukorrhea because the vagina has a natural defense mechanism that protects the reproductive system when an estrogen imbalance occurs. Too much estrogen sets in motion Leukorrhea and the discomfort it causes.

A few other causes of this condition include diabetes, anemia, poor personal hygiene, trauma or injury to the vagina can also cause Leukorrhea.
